Final Portfolio

Finally, to end this semester, I will be presenting a portfolio. I chose four pictures that I produced this semester that I feel are done and portfolio worthy.

photo 1

I chose this one to start with because (1) it in a self portrait and (2) it turned out way better than I ever expected. I had to draw this with no lines, just shades and color match the photograph.

I chose this one because it turned out pretty cool. The value match of the floor and dog are almost unnoticeable.

photo 2

This is probably my favorite thing I drew this semester. I loved using my imagination on this piece and the view was super cool coming from the back of the mouth looking out.

Lastly, I chose my comic strip. This one was fun and had cool color shades using cross hatching. I also liked the flow and movement of it. You know exactly what is going on without words.

Dream Come True

For my final project I had to create a collage based on a dream, altering the scale and proportion of objects from the dream and placing them in an illusionistic space to give your composition a surreal feeling. Earlier I posted about a dream (Dream Scenery)  I had that I created and will be sharing in this post.

Dream Recap:

I was in my house with my boyfriend and helicopters and planes flew over so we hid while they shot up the house. After they had flown over I walked into the kitchen where rays of light shown through the bullet holes in the ceiling. Kyle was standing by the island in the middle of the kitchen and seemed to be okay. He informed me that the dog had been hit. At that moment I look out the sliding door where the sky had the look of war and our black dog was coming inside. He was huge. When he got hit the bullets did not kill him, but instead made him grow really big and he was sad that he grew so big. I tried cheering him up by grabbing his paws, placing them on my shoulders, and giving him a hug. He was still sad. He then made his way to the trash can and tried to crawl in. I was reassuring him that we loved him very much no matter how big he was when I woke up.

Dream Come True

This is the closest I could get to recreating the dream that I had. Online I found a kitchen, dog and a sky that looked somewhat like war and put them together. I drew in the rest on the floor, dog , wall and ceiling. I also drew a screen door opened and planes and a helicopter in the sky. The “light” shining through the ceiling is tracing paper cut out so it is see-through.

I hope you enjoy looking at my dream as much as I did creating it!

Dream Scenery

The last project of the semester has to do with dreams. For my photo study I had to take at least 5 reference photos to illustrate the setting, characters, storyline, action, and scenery of a dream that I have had. First off I will tell you my dream and you will be able to view pictures I found somewhat relating to it afterwards.

Okay so, as we all know, dreams are weird sometimes and you can not explain them. I will tell you ahead of time it was not actually the house I live in (I’m not sure who’s house it is) and I do not own a black dog. So now for the dream.

Kyle

This is my handsome boyfriend and the man of my dreams.

The Kitchen

This is close to what the kitchen in my dreams looked like. I still do not know anyone with a kitchen like this so I do not know why I dreamed about it. (Google image)

Bullet Holes

It looked kind of like this only coming from the ceiling. (Google image)

War Sky

The sky had the look of war and in case that does not make any sense, here is a picture to maybe help. (Google image)

Diesel

This is my basset hound and this is basically the view I had of the black dog in my dream as I was hugging him. Do not tell Diesel he may get jealous.

Sketch-itecture

I was assigned to sketch the architecture of an indoor space and an outdoor space, hence the name Sketch-itecture, as if I was viewing each one from above, at ground level, and from below for a total of 6 sketches. My artwork is not the best so I will label them so you know which is which.

Indoor:photo 1This is the ceiling, beam, and window as if you were to look up from a sitting position. (Worms-eye view)photo 2This is the room at ground level looking at some work stations in the classroom. photo 3This is a view looking down at the classroom and my friend sitting alone. (Birds-eye view) Say hi!

Outdoor:photo 2Here we have another worms-eye view looking up into a tree.photo 1Now we view another tree from ground level.photo 3Lastly we look down from a birds-eye view on a boy drying off  by his napping dog and curious cat after some fun in the pool.

Dream Narrative

I don’t dream very often but when I do it never makes sense anyway. I will attempt to narrate a dream I had years ago that I remembered.

It started in the parking lot of my church and I was supposed to be headed home. The only way I could get home was by foot and for some reason I was in a hurry. I started toward home and next thing I knew I was on the top of a roof running across it to get home. when I came to the edge of the house I fell all the way down and hit the ground. I continued onto the next house and once again fell but this time hitting a bicycle. In much pain, I climbed onto the next house and this went on and on as I journeyed home. There were no words said, just heavy breathing and pain as I continued falling off roofs, knocking the wind out of me, and hitting bushes, trees, rubbish, and all. Eventually I got tired of falling and hurting myself and thought, “This is stupid…” and woke up. The End.

I don’t know what dreams mean or why we have the ones we have, but this one always stuck with me because I remember falling and the pain I was in.

Story Development

Earlier I posted a comic strip. Now I will give you a little behind the scenes of the making of it (which is not as exciting as it sounds). As I have mentioned before, I love pizza! When the assignment asked to create a comic strip making an inanimate object that comes to life, I naturally had to do pizza. Then pizza reminded me of ninja turtles and I came up with the story “The Revenge Of The Pizza”. I had only six frames to fit in the story and we were not allowed to use words. I made up some rough sketches to fit it all in before I came to the final draft. At first I drew it out in pencil so I could erase if needed. I went over with a pen to make it darker. However, it was still missing something. So to give it more depth and make it come to life a little more by shading it with cross hatching like you see in the black and white comic books. This made it come together rather nicely, I believe.

Sketches On The Move!

Continuing on with forms, for our sketches this week we had to create 3 sketches of subjects

  1. a subject moving across the pagephoto 2
  2. a different subject spinningphoto 1
  3. a third subject moving into the page.photo 3

Storefront’s Analysis

Earlier I took pictures of storefronts and posted them. Now I will be picking three and analyzing what I feel is the focal point regardless of the owners intentions.

photo 2

This store’s focal point for me is the colors. This looks more like a pawn shop. The walls are dull and the red paint is faded. If it did not say ice cream I would not have thought it was an ice cream shop.

photo 2

The focal point on this storefront is the flower-star thing in the middle of Texas. I automatically see an “i” every time I look at this. If I did not know obviously this says “Texas” I probably would not be able to read it. It took me awhile to realize the leaves of the flower made an “x”. But then again I am blonde.

photo 1

I just love this one. The letters are so fun and the yellow line makes you want to smile before you even read the word smile due to it’s shape. It’s a cute lay out, however, it gives off the vibes that it is where girls would go and not so much boys.
